Day 14: snowbound in Atlanta

I took an over night flight from Lima to atlanta, all flights from Atlanta have been cancelled including my connecting flight. Snow bound until further notice!

Day 13: Illimo to Lima

En route to the airport at Chiclayo to make my way back to Lima, then back to London via a brief stop off in Central America.

Day 12: Brenda's baptism

I was invited to attend a baptism in Illimo by the family that I was staying with. The ceremony was followed by a proper Peruvian celebration involving 3 dinners over the course of the evening and dancing. In keeping with tradition the godparents were each presented with a whole turkey for dinner!

Festival of the three kings

Day 11: Brick factory in Illimo

An early start for the day with a visit to a brick factory near Illimo. At this factory they make three types of brick, King Kong (15cm in length) used in one story buildings, Pandereta (12cm in length) used on second floor of buildings and Tubo, used on the roof.
Juan, pictured below taught me how to make hand made Pandereta bricks, 4 bricks are made in the mould at once. More photos to follow soon.

Day 10: Trujillo to Chiclayo



This morning I took a bus to Chiclayo, I then spent the rest of the day visiting the Valley of the Pyramids at Tucume and the Museum of Sipan.

Day 9: Trujillo

This morning i boarded the first flight from Lima to Trujillo. In Trujillo I visited the Huaca dela Luna and the Chan chan complex.

Day 8: Cusco to Lima

Today I started my journey to The North coast and left Cusco for Lima.
I had a meeting with Marcial Blondet who is an engineer and is has developed ways of making buildings which will be resistant to earthquakes. Here is a link to a BBC article about his work. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8201971.stm
