Portman House, Jian Ye Ki is a historic preservation and redevelopment project located in the heart of Shanghai's French Concession. Build in the early 1930's, Jian Ye Li i sone of the city's finest examples of Shukumen-style housing - design unique to Shanghai that blends traditional Chinese residential elements with functional Western amenities. I arrived at Shanghai Central Station at approximately 8.30am via the overnight train from Xi'an. I spent the rest of the day investigating buildings around the French Concession.

Day 11

I woke up in Xi'an to the rain drumming on the roof, and it didn't stop all day. However the rain didn't stop me from exploring the city, I met with Zhou Xianjuan, a local historian who gave me a brief history on the city.
